Job Title: Zoological Curator
Department: Collections
Location: Museum of Madagascar
Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Collections Director

Job Overview:
The Zoological Curator will oversee the care, organization, and presentation of the Museum of Madagascar's zoological collection, highlighting the unique biodiversity of Madagascar. This position involves research, conservation, and public engagement, ensuring that the collection is preserved, accurately represented, and utilized in exhibits and educational programming. The ideal candidate will have a passion for Madagascar's wildlife, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to advancing the museum's mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curate and maintain the zoological collection, ensuring proper documentation, storage, and preservation.

  • Collaborate with the Exhibits and Education teams to design and implement engaging displays and programming.

  • Conduct research on the collection, publishing findings and contributing to the scientific community.

  • Coordinate with local and international conservation efforts to align the museum’s work with global biodiversity goals.

  • Supervise and mentor interns, volunteers, and other team members as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards and legal regulations regarding the acquisition and care of zoological specimens.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in Zoology, Biology, Museum Studies, or a related field.

  • At least 3 years of experience working in a museum, research, or conservation setting.

  • Strong knowledge of Madagascar's fauna and biodiversity.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Proficiency in collection management software is a plus.

  • Physical ability to handle specimens and perform light lifting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience collaborating with conservation organizations.

  • Familiarity with exhibit design and public education initiatives.
